Certainly very little wrong with the plugs in the photograph. Cant see any need to attack them with a wire brush either. It's more likely to do harm than good.

And even in my twin turbo RV8 I didnt use plugs as cold as an 8.

7 is as cold as you would ever need IMO.

I would have gone for BR7ECS but they dont do make them so it was a choice or BR6ECS or BR8ECS.

Guess time will tell if I made the wrong choice :-)

Tested the spark strength with my gunson 'sisser type' gauge and it easily went to full width, even went wider, spark strength seemed great.
The same two cylinders went down again on the way home tonight, 2 and 3. I had a wiring problem two weeks ago, so coil D wasn't switching which fires 2 and 3. Had to drive home with 2 and 3 down, probabbly 15 - 20 miles. Could that have damaged the plugs?
Tonight fitted two new plugs in 2 and 3 cylinder and went for a drive and seemed ok.
Checked my AFR's and they are actually ok, crusing 15 odd, idling quite lean as well.

Well it would allow the plugs to get soaked with fuel. If you are driving like that, you should always unplug the injector for those cylinders too.

As Ive said countless times. Fuel soaked plugs = bin.

Sometimes they may be usable again, often they wont. And trying to resolve a running problem with potentially dead plugs is a bit silly.

Having seen some of the issues on here with plug tips breaking off am now wondering what plugs were being used.


I was looking for a resistive plug so has gone for BR8ECS, too early to tell how these will perform but no issues so far.

The ECS plugs are what I've used for ages on gas and boost. No problems so far :)

The cutting back of the earth strap is a normal tweak on stock plugs for boost and nitrous.
