4.6 block rebore?

Post by Seight-V8 »

hiya all,

Where would be the best place to get my 4.6 block re-bored.

Anyone got some good places to recommend.

I'm up in the north-east of england...so local ish would be nice.

I'm not after flanged liners, just a standard rebore.

cheers

There isn't a factory specified rebore on the 4.0 & 4.6 blocks. I guess they think the liners are thin enough already.....

There is not a option to re-bore the 4.0 as you can't get +10 pistons or rings

but on the 4.6 you can get +10 and +20 piston and rings.

Try V8 Developments.
Current V8 car TVR 400SE 240 BHP
Current Project TVR Tasmin Race, with 3.9 running at 230 BHP
Currently building a 4.6 300 BHP Xbolted Engine for it. Solid Lifters and Group A rockers, Stange 4 heads, Pocketed piston, fully balanced.

V8 Tuner has +20 4.6 pistons. If the Block has a blob of red paint in the valley you should be ok but it would probably be wise to have the block pressure tested before doing any boring. Check that all the liners are level with the tops of the block, it should be obvious if any of them have moved.

hiya all,

so far i think my 4.6 block looks ok.

The cast date shows 1997.

And its got 3.0 written on the inside of the valley.

Reading the books this means it's got 3.0mm between the casting and the liner.

And the liners are sat on a small shoulder right at the base of the cylinders, so they shouldnt drop.

So hoping pressure test will be ok.

cheers

Scott

Does it really need a rebore, most 100k mile engines are ok with just a hone. Have you had the bores checked, if within tolerances you could spend the money more effectively on some head work and possibly a fast road cam.

I think B+H autokraft are in the NE and can T-hat the block too themselves if you wanted to go that way. Don't know how good they are but i've heard nothing bad about them.
