I have some questions about the 94 mm stroke.

In the book "How to power tune Rover V8 engines" by Less Hammill it is said that J.E.Engineering built an experimental engine with a 96mm stroke for but they found it a little harsh and discontinued the research into engines with strokes longer than 91.5mm.

In the same book I cannot find Wildcat engines with stroke longer than 92mm.
Does any of you have experience with engines with the 94mm stroke?

V8Develpoments sell a 5.5L engine. Does any one know this?
Yes, it's a good engine. My cranks inside, the engines on 96mm bore.

I had one of Robs 5.5 engines in my Griff, cracking engine produced 370 bhp and 430 ftlb of torque!,and when leaving the Ace one night reved to 7200(very sideways!) with no problems. My car was on par with jellisons ls6 chim ,now running a 5.0 still with the emerald(5.5 is now in a swiss TVR)only sold it to pay the bloody gordon brown a fourtune in stamp duty! .Car is also having to go in the spring as I am starting a new business.

Evening TS welcome aboard as they say, read all about the progress on PH. Sounded like a mega mill once Rob at finished it. I'd have lowered the c/r and got a turbo on there as well, he he. Shame you had to let it go.

Hi Mike,I test drove thr Zo6 Vette with jellison on saturday and I am hooked!,slight problem of £60K!!!,would like to bring a LS2 Vette back from the States in a couple of years and supercharge it,cheaper way to 500bhp!.So you supplied the 5.5 cranks to Rob,have you changed the design as I hear they where a pig to balance?.

It's an awsome car and incredible value for the money. I'd like one!
You can get 500 hp without the s/c from an ls2.

I don't think it was a pig to balance, balancing's just balancing if you see what I mean. I think he had to pay for more tungsten then expected. It has to balanced to suit whatever parts are 'hanging' off of it.

Is the Tvr 5.0 bottom end any good?

I understand the pistons are a weak point but what about the rest?

The problem with the cranks are that they are not internally balanced,TVR just welded bit of metal onto the front pully and drilled out the flywheel.
My engine only did 9000 miles before the crank pully came loose and damaged the crank,so if you are going to build one get it balanced!.
The pistons tend to loose pieces where the valve cutouts are in the top on some engines.

And the reason people don't do the internal balancing is because it cost's money, takes time and the market's competitive on cost. Even pukka piston/crank rod kits from the US are supplied non balanced or rough balanced. Punters just don't appreciate this and the extra costs involved so install them 'as is'.

May be there is an other option for stroker crank if you know where to machine it.

Last year I have had some informations about Geoff Ogilvie P76 5.4 prepared by Motopreps in NZ.

This engine has a 3.75 strock forged crank. If information is ok, the crank is from Ford 351W SVO and was purchased as rough crank from Eagle reference 37506200.

Apparently Ford rough crank is very similar than Rover one.

I think Wildcat uses same rough cranks for their forged cranks.

An complete finish Forged 4340 Chromoly Steel crank for SVO 351 costs around 785USD.

I will be curious to ask how much Eagle asks for an forged rough crank.
