Have you noticed any running vibrations on the engine with it not being balanced with the original pistons.

Rover 4.0 pistons
Hi guys,is it worth my while sticking 4.0 rv8 pistons in my 4.6 that i'm rebuilding to raise the compression if so how much extra bhp will it give me and are there any negatives about doing this piston swap.

Thanks for the replys,is it possible to swap the sdi front input shaft retaining cover over to the sherpa box so the pivot pin is on the right side for the sd1 bellhousing clutch setup,and is it a diy job to swap over the input shafts if need be ie sdi onto the sherpa[if it is a sherpa box :? ]. rob

The roll pin for the open diff is longer than the roll pin for the lsd diff. You only need to remove it if you are changing the sun/star gears. (Only two of the gears I think are interchangable between lsd and open). IIRC the roll pin just needs drifting down so then you can tap the axle out, I rem...

I have just done the exact same job. Are you changing the bearings as well? If you change the pinion and crown wheel to a different case then you should also adjust the pinion height which is very difficult! much easier to keep the gears in the same original case then you can get away without doing...
