Re: Rover v8 3.5 cam / lifter recommendations (in a Series Landy carb)

How is your valve train? When I rebuild my engine my first rockers were crap - bigger bore than my worn OEM rockers! Details here: https://www.v8forum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6474&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 Also what oil are you using? I found 10w50 better in my older 3.5 with...

Re: Rover V8 4.6 fit top hats or not

What do you mean - "it doesn't have liners"? Has someone removed them? as all RV8's have iron liners. I rebuilt my 4.6 - had the same questions on liners. I had the block pressure tested and found 3x were leaking so that was an easy decision for me in the end, to go with top hat liners and...

Re: John Eales crank damper, oil seal journal eccentricity

Seal runout allowance greatly depends on seal type - and shaft speeds. This might give you some ideas: https://www.skf.com/uk/products/industrial-seals/power-transmission-seals/radial-shaft-seals/technical-specification But 17thou - nearly 0.5mm for me, is way too much. Even it is 'works' at first -...

Re: Does anyone know how to simplify a Gems 4.6 p38a cooling system for a classic car?

The thermostat housing and inlet manifold base. Someone's modified that - it's not how GEMS were originally. GEMS versions had a remote thermostat housing on the lower radiator hose - some call it a cows udder!! one of the pipes is a feed from the manifold to the back of this remote thermostat to g...

Re: Problems with new Rover 4.6 Engine

Just on a slightly different topic but shows just how frustrating this all is in relation to what RPI supplied. Whilst watching videos on Rovergauge I came across a mention of a grounding plug for the diagnostics port which is there to prevent ECU interference. I had no idea this was supposed to be...

Re: Flywheel issue

There are a few similar clutch slave cylinders from various old Landrover/Rovers etc.. with different bores - which might just help give you enough throw - if that's your issue? that you have a firm clutch pedal but the clutch isn't 'disengaging'? Smaller slave bore will give you more movement - at ...

What ECU is controlling your idle stepper motor?
1000rpm is still too fast for normal warm idle.

Re: Problems with new Rover 4.6 Engine

Maybe unplugging and replunging in your injectors cured a doggy contact for those two injectors to explain the clean exhaust ports?
White plugs obviously suggest its too lean, which can also cause high temps.

Re: Problems with new Rover 4.6 Engine

I have the injectors out, nothing that I can see blocking them in any way They all have the same internal resistance of 14.8 ohm and applying 12v gives a nice audible click. I think I am going to put them all in my ultrasonic cleaner, take off rubber seals first Anyone think of an effective way to ...

Re: Problems with new Rover 4.6 Engine

I would suspect the low pressure on those two cylinders is as a consequence of those two cylinders not firing and the rings not bedding well?

Check the resistance of the injectors - at the ECU plug, which will also check the connector to injector contact.

Re: Problems with new Rover 4.6 Engine

I have had poor wiring connection with some of my injectors in the past - from my old original wiring loom. I traced it back to weak spring contacts in the a couple of injector connectors. I small tweak with a screw driver and hey presto singing on all 8 again. As you have separate exhaust headers i...

Re: 1990s Range Rover 4.6ltr V8 Timing failure

Hello everyone, I'm pretty sure it's not the oil pump. The problem and the cause is the gear on the distributor shaft. The gearing is poorly made and relatively rough. That wouldn't be a big deal. It would wear in after a short time. But! The gear is also much too hard and practically doesn't wear ...

Wow.
I would definitely be taking off both heads - if who ever built it 'forgot' the head gasket!! What else have they missed?
Exhaust gaskets are easy to get the wrong way round.

Especially if high pressure oil relief springs are used putting more force through the gears.
