help with axles
looking to fit a axle strong enough for a rv8 with a few extras (edelbrock carb/manifold 390, tubalor exhausts, gas flowerd and ported heads) and was wondering a few things about a back end to take it ive looked at , capri 2.8 back axles, subaru turbo axles, plus browsed a few more i need the axles to be ruflly the size of the capri if not shorter. also if any would set me to a website or number for a company in the east midlands that could shortend a axle etc would be very appricated. im not the most tecnical minded with ratio's,and down to the nitty gritty numbers so any axles suggested please let me no wat car, engine size, year the axle is from please and what ratio dif would be best for a drag race kind of senario withh the v8 above running on a vittesse lt77 thanks
What are you going to fit this in, is it a mini with a RV8 in the front drivivg the rear wheels? if so are you planning on indipendent rear suspension or a live rear end ? Just you have already mentioned capri 2.8 and a scooby so no clues there
With 180 to 200 break you are a bit spoiled for choice, you could even go for a transaxel set up like the alfa 75, porsche 924/944/928 if you wanted to get the polar MI up a bit to make it less twitchy. Otherwise, for live axels, range rover, capri 2.8, MGB, v8 if you can find one otherwise the B will just about hold together in a light car ford atlas volvo (various mostly tough as old boots) ford 8.8 and 8" (maveric, mustang, explorer), diesel transit, merc sprinter pretty much anything will need to be cut to fit. For indipendent try sierra, scorpio, practically any of them, but the 7.5s are a bit stronger, but not necessary for the power you have, jag XJ/K, BMW any of them 2litre and up, mx5, lexus, in fact pretty much any rear drive toyota 2.5 litres and up or with a turbo nisan the same (rear drive that is) merc again.
there are names of companies on this part of the forum (in threads about narrowing) who can narrow axels for you.
Really a proper spec of what it is to go into would help.
Best regards
Mike

poppet valves rule!
I'm using a stock MGB V8 Salisbury axle in my MGB. Its close in size to a Capri atlas axle and its really strong. The ratio is 3.07:1
I'm running a de tuned 4.6 with over 200hp of nitrous. She puts out 400hp and even more torque. I broke the diff locker 2 years ago and just welded the cogs to make it a sort of spool diff.
I've hammered this thing on the track for 2 years with no breakages!!
I'm just aobut to stick a 300hp shot of gas through it for 2010.
