Does anybody recognise this ignition module?
I'm asking for a friend of mine who has just bought a Stag with a RV8 in, but he has no idea what make/model this ignition system is, or how it wires up. Anybody have any info?

That'll be Rover SD1 35DM8 ignition amplifier/ballast resistor module sir. Not my favourite as it runs a 6V coil and doesn't give the fatest spark, so I don't use them myself (as the later distributor mounted module is much better if you're going to use stock Rover stuff). Rimmer's (RPI?) do an 'upgrade' version of that module - opinions vary on it's effectiveness.
I'm sure a glance at an SD1 haynes Manual would have you on your way or someone who has used them will be along in a bit.

ballist resistor by-pass??
Hi. I think I read on this forum before that there is a way of by-passing that Opus amplifier/ballist resistor pack so that you can run a 12V coil which works much better??
I have much the same setup as above (same silver amp box in photo above) but the dizzy itself is the Lucas Opus 35DE8. I find it very hard start the engine when its hot. Not too bad start when cold. I would like to by-pass and run a 12V coil if their is a way without changing the whole dizzy??
Thanks
Nige
