help diff isues

Post by Monster V8 »

Hi all
I have a rover sd1 with a 4.2. tvr engine, it has (had) an Atlas Rear Axcel limited slip diff.

I have been down to the garage today,
1. The diff has broken up/ ceased
2. The shaft that comes out of the gear box that the prop joins to has completely sheared off from the gear box end.(there is no shaft coming out of the gear box anymore)

not sure what to do now, he said he will get some prices for me on Monday.

not sure if i can get another limited slip diff, and not sure if the standard one will last also not sure wht is the case with the gear box now.????????????

can anyone give me some advice as to where to go for parts or for the work to be done.

Also if any one has any ideas as in what i can upgade to ??? 8-) 8-)

the 2nd picture down ,the silver tube on the front of the axle is the extension housing tube, The axle looks more like a sd1 axle to me, my brother had the same on his rover, and its the same on mine apart from the watts linkage. what parts are needed for it and what area are you in, :) rich

So you have two problems, one with your rear end which by the way is not an Atlas ........and second you have a problem with your gearbox.

One, if there's a problem with the LSD from the rear end you'll probably get away with new clutchplates.
Second find yourself a new gearbox, Upgrade to a R380 2WD box or search for the same LT77 you'll probably now have, I'll guess you didn't use the TVR T5 box with the engine.

Am not sure but the TVR 4.2 probably did use the LT77, I think it was later they used the T5.

Dont buy direct from Quaife, they do not do discount at all.

Search and shop around, their retailers can offer discount.
