I was hopeing to have the car ready for the Classic Ford Show this weekend, BUT its finially defeated me, I had it ready to start mid week, and although it was firing it was deffo miles out, Having no laptop at hand Timing adjustments were out of the question, another thing that has appeared is the fan runs as soon as the ign is switched on,
Ive had the ECU modified to run EDIS coil packs, r2d2hp, came over today to help me, Reloaded the programme and tried again, deffo had the timing out, and ended up adding up 180+ degs to the timimg to get it to run, well sort of run, deffo not running on all 8started pulling plugs and found some dripping and others bone dry, so we pulled out a set of injectors on the fuel rail, switched on and it was soon apparent that some injectors were being held open and others not working at all, swap the plugs over and the problem follows the plugs,, Now Im all for there being a driver fubered in the ECU throwing up oddball problems, Possibly causing a short internally and giving an earth fault so the fan runs,
Dunno, this car has turned into a long and very hard slog, which keeps biteing me in the a-se, 60 hours this week, and its still not running

i had all these probs last year, and thought the same, but glad i stuck at it,
i to will not be racing on sunday due to the clutch, but im going to limp the car up to put on show on our capri stand

I loaded Emerald SW onto my new pc tonight and went to my car and down loaded from ECU map and then uploaded it. As soon as it uploaded my fans came on similar to yours.
Then tried to start engine and its popped and banged just like yours. Pulled in my saved map and config from PC and downloaded to ECU and fan stayed on and it would not start. Now I am beginning to worry that my day on the rollers yesterday setting up my ECU may have been in vain.
After may attempts fan stopped and engine started, all seems ok.
So I think we should take another look at yours before you start ripping the wires out. There is something strange happening even when a good config and map is downloaded.

Reg and I have been having a long look today at things in general on the ECU side, the only mods I have done are on the coil driver side and this has been done on a seperate loom, everything sparks in the right order, all the wires have been double checked for their positions and runs, and appear to be working ok, I have almost correced the timing discrepency in the toothed wheel, but I need to pull off the harmonic ballancer to finially get it correct, Ive still got the problem of the injectors staying open, we are both of the mond the drivers have gone down, so we re jigged the ECU plug to use a spare set of drivers that were not being used, still got injectors sticking on, so the ECU is going back to Emeralds to be checked over, It worked OK before it went away for its upgrade to run the coil packs, Give me a chance to walk away from it.
