breather system

Post by neesona »

hi folks,,,,

is there anyone who can tell me where exactly the breather system is on my v8i 3.9 discovery.

i did think i needed a new engine but apparently there could be a blockage in the breather system and i'm to check it over before buying a new engine.

any help would be gratefully recieved

agnes

There is a flame trap on the drivers side rocker cover at the front, with a pipe running into the plenum (via a convoluted route). The flame trap unscrews, and is probably caked with muck.

What's the actual issue with the engine?

Chris.

just a thought , bulging plate under the inlet manifold ??

if so it's the hole in the plenum blocked AGAIN , i just drilled mine straight through it dosn't block anymore ...
trouble is as std it takes a "dogleg" route and it's almost impossible to clean

oh where to start, bascially we are getn a build up of internal pressure which then pushes the dip stick up and oil out of it, over the time we were initially using the car when the problem first became obvious, it started getting rougher and noisier, the mechanic at the engine factor, says that all the problems could be down to a blockage in the breather system, as this would increase the internal pressure and the engine would have more pollutants circulating within it therefore causing the roughness and noise.

see above post , start there it's the pipe that go's from the o/s rocker cover to the inlet , that is sucking though there as the air gos into the engine thus creating a vacuum in side the engine , then air drawn in via a small filter on the back of the n/s rocker cover ...
and more than likely the problem is the hole in the inlet , see picture

http://www.putfile.com/album/180955

it's only small hole in the ally and it blocks often , the trouble is that it does a left and then a right turn inside ...but i dosn't have too , trust me , what a lot of people do is drill it straight through from the outside , don't go made a 4 or 5mm hole will be enough , you can do it in situe , cloth stuffed in the inlet and a hoover will sort any swarf

hope this solves your problem , it normally does ...usually the "valley " gasket bugles up under the inlet manifold
