AT LAST,

Post by ian.stewart »

5 months after breaking the engine, At last I have got round to removing the engine from the car, TBH I havent had the space or inclination to remove it, especially as I know the crank nose is bent, so Ive got everything apart now, and the condition of the crank is remarkable, after having the nuts wrung out of it every time its been out I was expecting to see copper everywhere, NOT a mark anywhere, no scores in the bearings, no marks on the crank, the only thing I can see is the thrust faces are quite bably worn, and showing copper, theres not a mark in the bores, just a but glazed,
So the block has gone off to be honed and hot tanked, and I am going to get the pistons checked, looking how little wear there is allround, against my better judgement, I may use the old rings, just because the rings for Omegas are made of unobtanium, Ill see what the gaps look like when the bores have had their kiss, There are some close sizes from Total Seal so I may end up with theit offerings, but that depends on weither the rings are 2mm or 5/64ths.

If the old rings have a bit of wear it wont matter Ian. You need a slightly bigger ring gap for Nitrous anyway
