What is this lug on Rover block for please?

Post by v8trev »

I have 3 ex Discovery Rover V8 engines. Only 1 of the 3 (the one I plan on using) has this drilled lug on the lefthand side of the engine (righthand side if viewing the block from the front). The other two blocks have a much smaller lug which isn't drilled.

Ideally I need to remove the drilled lug but need to know its purpose before doing so - my guess is it's for the air con pump mounting. Is this correct?

Thanks very much.

It is indeed and probably used for mounting something in another config as well. You can safely cut it off if you don't need it.

I have allways assumed they are datum lugs for locating the block in a jug at the factory for machining.
