First post on here looking for some advice and what direction to go with my TVR 4.6 rover V8 engine.
Purchased a Chimaera 450 with a load of work already done including a new engine built by TVR power which runs lovely as follows.
Assumed standard 4.6 heads
Tophat liners
MBE ECU
38mm carbon trumpets and smooth bore inlet
TVR Power 885 Cam
Clive F GT manifolds and full decat
Attached is the RR print out from when it was mapped at powers. TVR power curves are meant to be at the wheels therefore the readings are very high for a 4.6 with standard heads. I am going to get a power run at another dyno soon.
I would like more torque & power so what are my options?
The car will only be a road car used for spirited driving with exception of annual trip to france cruising around. MPG is a consideration and with the MBE I am currently getting around 30mpg on a run.
What i would like;
- Peak power at higher revs say 6 to 6.25k
- Retain mid range torque although ok if a bit higher up the range.
- Retain hydraulic cam shaft and rockers
Assuming i have std heads, should i go straight to Stage 4 Rover items or is there a benefit to TA heads at my engine capacity?
I can get a set of 2nd hand jenvey throttle bodies on a down draught manifold at a reasonable price through a friend.
I have pocketed pistons which I am told allows me to run a more aggressive cam. What would be recommended thats hotter than my TVR 885 without being a race cam. ITBs and the MBE should give me more options right?
I can do the majority of this work myself so labour costs apart from the remap can be neglected from the financial part of any recommendations.
Could I get 350hp and similar torque from something like this? Would it be a pig on the road?
Thanks.

Re: TVR 4.6 Mods
You don't mention any budget?
Bang for buck you can't beat forced induction - turbo or supercharger.
You'd be doing well to get 350 NA from the Rover - but 400 is quite 'simple' with forced induction and around 10psi.
I have a centrifugal supercharger on mine - and I find it meaty in the mid range and keeps pulling to red line (though I haven't actually got to red line and full throttle!)
One 1/4 event I did my supercharger failed - so I drove home just as an NA 4.6 and it felt so slow in my 600kg Rush!
