3 speed auto box HELP!!

Morning all,

New member here and pretty new V8 owner.
In summary, I have a Ford 100e with a 3.5 V8 in it.

Recent mid 3 point turn the gearbox went and I lost reverse and neutral - you can imagine the panic in my face!
I got it towed to a garage (non classic and probably a mistake) they've taken the gearbox off and sent it off. Apparently water got into it via the breather and has ruined the clothes and banding.

The cost to rebuild it is £1400 (2k including refitting). This feels high to me and I must be able to get one online cheaper?

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction please?
