I'm back & need help again!!!

Post by Jono FD3 »

Right, I finaly got around to strapping a battery on to the V8 Lux I bought about 4 months ago!!!
The engine turns over which is a good thing as it's not seized!! But the compression is all over the place!! I have a raing between 30psi & 100psi (What should it be??)!!! I can garantee that the rings are stuck and as a result no sealing!! the poor thing has been stood for about 7 years so it's hardly supprising that there are small niggles!!!

The other thing is the fuel pump isn't working so I will need to get a replacement........ I've got one out of an RX7 FD3 (twin Turbo model) would this be OK for it or will it be too big??? other than that I need fresh petrol & to check the spark!!

If someone can help with the above issues or shed some light on them I would be most greatfull!!!

Cheers
Jono

stuck rings and or poor valve seating its also very likely your lifters have bleed down so your valves aren't opening.

I think the RX will be a fuel injection pump so unless you have EFI on your engine then no the pump is a bad choice as the pressure will be far too high.

I think pressure should be around 150psi? (depending on compression ratio)

Chris.

My 9.75:1 pistons with a tin gasket gave 165 to 170 psi

What I would do is

1. teaspoon of oil down each bore. leave plugs out.
2. Reprime the main oil pump using whatever arcane method is recommended for that engine.
3. Crank until you get oil pressure (if you have already done this ignore 2.

4. measure compression again. Remembering to keep the throttle wide open of course.
