Hi guys, just bit of a heads up and watch this space really as testing is yet to be done!!
Basically my brother works for the AA and one of his colleges did an ignition coil swap on an old school bike using a Renault pencil coil (Renault's coil on plug setup) and the owner got back in touch after saying the bike had alot more go and was better on fuel aswell!
Now I know it probably won't last long running 8 cylinders but I thought I'd give it a go! Low and behold it started first time, and has visibly less unburnt gasses out the rear compared to the std coil (running a little rich on a Holley) throttle response is better aswell! Soo I'm going to be giving it a propper trial at the next drift day on the 20th July, and then report back with my findings!

possible upgrade for coil :-)

Thing is you won't improve anything by having a better than needed spark. And even a points system is capable of giving that correct spark when everything is as it should be. The main difference with electronics is they maintain correct performance for longer without attention.

Yea, they do burn out pretty quickly on the Renaults, but then they are stuffed in to the hottest part of the engine
mounted on the inner wing they would run cooler so should last a lot longer, but time will tell, LOL!!
The coil that was being used was the correct unit from the SD1, but I have to say, there is still a bit of testing to be done to see what happens and how long it lasts...... if it spits the dumby after 2 drift days, then OK it's a no go for street use, but I'll keep using it till it dies and see how long it lasts
Next session I'll be using the ignition amp upgrade as well, so we shall see if there is any noticeable difference with that too
