Skyline box on to a chevy 5.7??

Post by Jono FD3 »

Right, I've been given a 5.7 chevy now and it looks like it could be in the drift truck for next season all going well, but just need to get a gearbox, clutch and flywheel set up!!

I know people will say, just get a V8 box (something like the tremec TKO 500 etc) but they are going to set me back a fare bit!! Then the other day someone suggested using a skyline GTST gearbox from the 2.5 turbo as they can take up to 700bhp and 600lbf, and can be picked up cheep if you know the right people...... so as a result I thought I'd see if anyone has used one on here before, or just get some opinions...

Hi
I would think it can be done. . . lets face it it boils down to some form of adaptor plate or bell housing and a hybrid clutch bolted to a chevy flywheel not rocket science. . . I would think you will have to do 90% of it yourself for a cheep solution or import an adaptor kit (probably from Australia) if you can throw cash at it.
How many gears do you need? and what sort of overall ratios? just some of the older 4 speed boxes for chevys are pretty tough and as cheep as they come and have the right bell housing.
Best regards
Mike
By the way congratulations on getting a proper V8
poppet valves rule!
