Ford 302 + T5 gearbox how much tilt is ok

Post by nairb356 »

How much tilt is permitted for a 302 + T5?
Im looking at having the driveshaft end of the gearbox about 1.5 inches below level when viewed from the side.

( engine is about .5" off level from one end of the rocker cover to the other end)

Fitting in TR6 V8

The tilt is fine you can run engines at some crazy angles if needed, but, what you do need to take into account is the diff flange has to be a similar angle to the tailshaft flange to keep everything in Phase, it is sometimes desirable to run the dif slightly "nose"up so the flange is in phase when driven and under load, not when stationary,

Hi Ian,
In the TR6 the diff wont move as its mounted to the body, in the current position the angle of each is approx 90 degrees and pointing at each other!
so I should be ok
THanks!

Ahh the delights of the Triumph IRS, I hope you have a spare diff, or change the lot using subuaru diff assy and custom shafts,
