just a feeler

Post by JJMclure »

before I put a post in the for sale section, I am seriously considering changing to an iron block LS1 so will need to sell the engine bits I already have. I have a fully rebuilt chevy small block short block, full felpro gasket set, hamburger stroker clearanced sump, edelbrock torquer II inlet manifold, hooker (I think) exhaust manifolds, chrome timing cover, comp cams magnum hydraulic roller cam, fuel pump block off plate, oil pump drive shaft, arp main cap bolts and maybe one or two other bits that I can't remember. Would anyone be interested or will it be the dreaded ebay treatment?

Hi
I would be interested in a full spec, pistons, crank, rods what Ci is it.
On the LS front, have you been reading up on the latest bonnoville engines on car craft magazine then?
6L iron block, 4.8 LS factory crank (gives 5.3 litres) factory heads - lightly ported, single big turbo and about 1700 bhp on methanol  with the 5.3 crank they make about the same power but the revs are slightly lower and they have to limit the boost because the 5.3 crank is not as strong.
big boys power on a realy low parts cost!
Best regards
Mike

it's a 350 with either a .030 or .040 rebore I can't remember I would have to have a look, standard rotating assembly and cam, one piece rear main seal.
Re the LS I got a copy of 'ls series power' from car craft funnily enuff and they stuck a carb on an iron headed lq4 6.0 truck engine and made 425 horses and 439 tq - http://www.carcraft.com/projectbuild/11 ... ewall.html

Hi JJ
sorry the engine is not for me, I am keeping an eye out for out for a possable spare short block should one come up that was not too different from my current one unfortunatly a standard 350 bottom end would be too different for it to work with the rest of the car.
I think alot people over here still haven't realised just how good the LS series engines are, especially some of the "truck" engines (5.3 and 6.0L iron blocks) the best heads for a long while were the L96 castings on "mid size trucks" these things flowed like nascar SB2 heads did when they first came out apart from some of those in corvettes they are all heavily detuned in standard form sticking on a properly matched mild cam, blue printing everything and just cleaning up the castings and putting the bits together properly can add 40% to 50% easily to the output of these engines. You see very mild street LS engines making around 100 bhp per litre, that is normally the territory of 4 and 5 valve per cylinder 4 and 6 cylinder european engines not V8s built in the US.
Best regards
