Timing marks on RV8 Pully
Hia guys,
has anyone got a pic of the timing marks on a std rover pully, or even if they could tell me what the increments start at, what degree each mark is and how many marks in TDC is!!
I know this is a stupid question, but now the engine is in I can see the marks clearly, but having the SD1 pully machined for the P5/6 water pump, the text for TDC and numbers have been machined off!! School boy error I know! I've got the engine running and the timing is set to the marks the previous owner tipexed on the pully, but I don't think it's right as I feel it's down on power and it's laizy starting when hot!
Cheers

Why dont you make a TDC tool and find ACTUAL TDC on your engine.
You can then mark real TDC on the pulley as a starting point.
Then use an adjustable strobe light to find your proper timing. If you dont have one I could lend you mine. I can bung it in the post for you if required.
This is the sort of thing

It will take some amount of retarding the timing to make an engine pink lol !ChrisJC wrote:Personally I've never bothered with the timing marks. Just get the engine running and retard the timing until it starts to pink, then advance a tiny bit.
Job done!
Chris.
Advance til it pinks then retard a bit would be a better description.
But I agree with Perry. Unless you are 100% sure any timing marks are accurate, check TDC position yourself and verify.
