SU breathers?

Post by chrismc »

Hi Guys,

Just a quick one. In the pic I am pointing to the brass connections on the neck of the SU dashpot . Each carb has one and looks like a pipe should be connected to them.

Are they just breather pipes which vent to atmosphere or some sort of balance pipe to join the 2 carbs together?

Thanks Chris

Those carbs have been part of an LPG conversion at some stage. In that situation, those pipes are T'd together, and go via an electronic valve to the inlet manifold. The idea is that when on LPG, the vacuum sucks the pistons up out of the way of the inlet, so the carb is just acting as a butterfly.

You will also probably find that the tiny breather hole in each black cap has been plugged.

You need to clear the breather, and block up those ports.

Chris.
