Rover v8 BW35 upgrades?

Post by stroprock »

I have a RWYB drag car with a mildly tuned Rover v8 3.5 and a BW35 gearbox. Not being drag racer friendly gearboxes (although there are or have been quick cars which have ran with them), what sort of upgrades are available/possible for these gearboxes? I am thinking along the lines of shift kits, different springs in the valve body, hi stall converters etc?

Many thanks.

There isn't much you can do. Apparently the BW35 continued in Australia behind larger engines and those internals were upgraded and can be fitted into the BW35 casing, but even if that is the case then the clutches won't be any bigger diameter because of the restrictions of the main casing, so I can only asume they squeeze more clutches into the drums by making those wider, and those wider drums may have wider bands. I haven't heard of any shift kits. There are things that can be done with the valve block, but it does depend on the origin of the box (because they may be in there already), and even then it's not a lot. Probably the best is making it so "1" is first, and "2" is second (not 1-2 2-1 as most of them are). All you can do is make sure you have the best standard bits in there. You could have the converter modified. The smaller diameter converters have higher stall speeds than the larger ones as standard I think. I'd say the best idea would be to upgrade to something else, the easiest being a BW66, because the BW35 was at its limit behind the RV8.
