additional hole / lug on offy inlet manifold?

Hi Guys, had to grind off a section of aluminium for this lug to clear the rocker covers! What's it for. I am going to make a little bracket to bolt on for attaching the throttle return springs; but the size of the hole suggests it might have had a different use originally. I guess it's from the old Buick engine era? Any ideas?

Haven't seen one on mine... no signs of it either being removed by a previous owner to.

Typical…instructions taped to the side of the manifold box (which also contained a selection of USA newspapers to read!!!). Would have saved me the trouble of fitting it and then realising the rocker covers don’t fit!
I also have a very slight coolant weep from one of the head ports. I reused a 2k mile composite gasket because it looked so “new”. Big mistake. I suspect port size miss-match. You live and learn. All coming off tomorrow to fit a new gasket!
Question: Do I use any sealant as suggest around the water ports? I've never done so in the past and it’s always been bone dry.

I've always cleaned the faces of the coolant ports with brake cleaner, I then smear a THIN layer of silicon sealant round the ports on the heads, both the front and back ports, I do the same on the manifold as they are on the other side of the gasket. I Leave the sealant to cure for an hour or more before fitting the manifold. I've used the same tin gasket about four times now and it has never leaked. (It's port matched to by heads and I can not be bothered doing another one!) In fact I've had difficulty pulling the manifold off the engine as the silicon sticks the two components together too well!

I'm not sure what that lug is for, so I always cut them right off.

You should have a hole in the bracket that holds the throttle cable for your return spring or springs. If you want two springs they can both go in the same hole if you want. I use two springs all the time.

The BL manual says to use Hylomar, so that's what I use as most places stock it.
