Charlies 27L rover still hasn't managed 200mph - or even 100mph for that matter and he's the most talented out of the lot.
^^^ This, and Eliot's earlier post is spot on r.e. PCC.

While on the flip side, I do admire them for trying and exploring, as DaviesDJ says, shows the essence of why we bugger about with this stuff!!!

But you are right, there isn't going to be much MG left. For a start, with the engine in that position the whole steering is going to need redoing, and therefore driver position.

To break the 'ring record they will need to run that engine at full stress for 13 miles and do it in under 6:48 for the overall record (production and non-production records are practically the same), without breaking, and have a car/drivechain that can achieve and hold an average speed of over 110mph!!! All this in a car & engine designed in the 60s and built by two blokes in a lockup  good luck!

RIP MGB V8 .... served me well as a learning curve.

Elliot - it is not a PPC project! They are just reporting on it - it is being undertaken buy a collaboration of ex-lotus engineers - drag/circuit racers and Farndon is now an official partner. This is not a PPC "bodge"
Spent so much on trial and error!

I stand corrected then!
But as my previous photo shows a pair of massive turbo's on the RV8 should get the job done without having to marry lotus and rover reliability together!

Might pop down the shops and pick up a copy of ppc for a butchers..

I've got one of those Lotus 907 heads for exactly this purpose (one day!!!). I'll pick up a copy too as although the bore spacing is the same, the head bolts are in a different place.

Hi
that 900bhp engine with twin turbos and MG on the valve covers isn't a rover engine, the exhaust ports are a tad larger and in the wrong place and the center inlet ports are about 1 inch further away from each other than on the rover.
It takes a lot to get 1000 bhp out of an engine that has to run for more than 5 minutes at a time, just ask any of the audi engineers who had 2 goes at it on the veron, it is not just a case of a few mods and braces, you need proper cooling, a block that is up to it, good oil flow to cool bearings then the extra power to drive that lot.
best regards
Mike

Its the MG EX255 - googling suggests a RV8 - but must admit the rocker covers suggest otherwise.

Difficult to get a good photo as it was covered in plexi-glass.

Not SBC, BBC, LSx, BMW M62, Ford mod - so what is it?

Wildcat?

The engine used in the 255 was a wildcat development of the rover V8 - Using what is referred to as the 'turbo block' - a factory cast core with the cooling between the cylinders filled in to a degree with alloy.

Ian Richardson was the engine project leader - I remember asking him about it when he told me he had retired. Wildcat heads have still not been cast by the new owners - part of the reason I jumped ship to chevy!

Re: 1000 hp - mike - I think the issue with the Brydon is warranty - fuel types - function at altitude - servicing interval etc - many cars make 1000 hp reliably on the road and track - take the guys who sell me nos at midland Motorsport - nissan r26 at 960 bhp - bullet proof - but not for a warranty, street verisitity etc.
