Could you not just buy a sump plug and get it drilled and tapped ?
I do like your idea

Thats the simple way :)

Just drill and tap the thread into the existing sump plug ?

What thread is the sump plug ?

And will there be sufficient ground clearance for the sensor if you do that ?

Yes, but then you will also have a sensor sticking out the side of it. A sensor that may be more susceptible to damage from road debris...if it gets damaged your oil will leak out.

With a flush bolt, that is never a risk.

It's always something to consider.

I have a convenient plug that is tapped for a sender as per photo. It's part of the oil filter assembly but I have a remote oil filter fitted.

I had a bit of time,so I had a little play,

My sender was 5/8unf,I'll run a wire to it,the other end to a twin pole switch(with the other sender wire)and using one dial,I'll be able to switch between different senders,to monitor the oil temps !
I know,I have too much time on my hands!

If your sender is 5/8unf,you can have the drain plug,
Sorry you can't have the sender, probably wouldn't be compatible to your gauge,
Message me your address if it's any good
