Little Pipes on Carbs

Simple question here, I have twin Strombergs and where the carbs fit to the air filter elbows there is a small pipe about 10mm diameter and bent at 90 degrees, one end fits to a tube in the casting the other end has long flexible tube coming out of it. What are these tubes for and where does the other end connect ????

Are these the pipes you are talking about?

If I remember correctly they are fuel spill pipes that, in case of the valve in the float chamber sticking open, are supposed to pipe excess petrol off somewhere safe i.e. not all over the exhaust manifold.

exactly the one`s. I found them in the parts manual but didn`t show where they were going.
