Headed for Wheelsday yesterday and only made it as far as the Clackets Lane services. Returned home on the back of a recovery truck.
Problem started very suddenly. The car's been running well for ages.
It began as a slight hesitation and became a more pronounced misfire over just a few miles.
I made the most of my time at home to investigate the problem and this is what I've found so far ...
Once stopped the engine will start again but idle roughly.
I've checked the coil, distributor and HT leads for correct installation and all appears good. None of the ignition components are that old.
I've used ignition spark checkers (the push on clear cap things) on the plugs and all 8 appear to be sparking.
However, with the engine running, the exhaust header for cyls 1,3,5 & 7 is nice and hot as I would expect and the exhaust from the tailpipe is hot.
The exhaust header for cyls 2,4,6 & 8 is only warm and can be touched by hand and the exhaust gas is stone cold.
I've removed the rocker cover from the cold side and cranked the engine. Rockers look to be moving like they should and I can't see anything broken.
Has anyone ever experienced the same problem or have a suggestion as to what I should investigate next ?
The engine is a Rover P5 3.5 V8 with an Offenhauser 360 inlet manifold and a Holley 4-barrel 390cfm carb.
It's got a Lumenition ignition system.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks all.
Interesting problem with my RV8

Hi Dave,
I should have mentioned that I removed the air cleaner and had a look into the carb. The squirters are squirting and the butterflies are moving.
I thought that the inlet manifold was designed to feed 2 cylinders in each bank from one side of the carb so I would have expected 2 hot and 2 cold header outlets on each side.
This would have made some sense to me but to have a cold header and exhaust from 1 cylinder bank is frankly messing with my mind !
