I have it as low compression engine 3.5 EFI rangerover engine 1986 on, this could be wrong though. Compression ratio will be stamped next to the engine number if you see 813 its low comp 935 its normal comp. Basically that's all that really matters anyway unless you really want to know exactly where it is from for some reason. All the spare parts are pretty much the same except for pistons and cam.

Thanks Marki

One more thing,
Do you know the best carb for a rover 4.8 with forged pistons lightened and balanced with Kent fast road cam?

Is that the same as the edelbrock 500cfm unit? As I have one fitted to the engine already. Any idea on jetting for a 4.8? Interested to no why you said (if you really want to go carb) as I have a P38 running the same set up and the ECM/U upgrade cost over £700! So carb on this old Land Rover 110 hi-cap off roader with out re-wiring it with EFI etc is for my money the best way to go, I think carb is the best way to go for this application. But!! I am willing to here all that has been learned over the years from you chaps for the best results.

Yes its the same carb.

Nothing wrong with going the carb route at all but most of the guys with the kind of money that is in a 4.8 engine would opt for EFI.

Assuming you have a new 4.6 with upgraded pistons with the Kent H214 that is a VERY sweet combination. (If it is a stroked 3.9, other advice would apply). It will run super on the right carb..and will match any stock EFI system. At 4.8 and that cam, I may have leaned towards the 600 cfm, but the 500 will do.

Your Weber/Edelbrock question is asked often. Essentially, what you have is an old Carter design, made for Edlebrock by Weber (aka same thing).

Your combination is not main stream but that shouldn't be difficult. Tuning "kits" of jets and needles are made for these carbs and they are easy to fiddle and have fun with. Call Edelbrock and find out where you can purchase one.
