Not V8 but still need an answer if possible

Hi All
I have a customer who has restored an ERF truck with a Gardiner straight 8 motor in it.
Its a 240bhp HSA spec motor and needs to know what the original block colour would have been.
I gave him a right ol slagging as everything is done but the motor and looks shat compared to the rest of it.
Never one to mince my words he has said he will sort it out but needs the right info.
Any really clever bods on here tell me the answer please.

They seem to be various colours but this company could probably tell you.
