Probably includes cast iron exhaust and inlet manifolds - so you could shave quite a bit from that, but its still very heavy.

Yup but you Max-out a rover at about 230 to 255bhp without going to silly money, a 460 will kick out 500+ on standard heads, a 4 barrel carb and a half decent cam, with ally heads, ally water pump ally inlet, headers you will get 150 to 200 pounds off the 720 quoted, add a lightweight crank and rods and there is another 30 to be had. A long throw crank, bit of an over bore and a pretty concervative build based on aftermarket heads and a roller cam and you could be looking at 700 to 750 BHP normally aspirated, this is a big boys engine and makes real power, what it would do to a landrover chassis is another matter  :?

I did a lot of research when I was going to put a stroked 383 chevy in my landy racer. There is only one box (other than one i cant remember that is double the price!) that i found after many months of searching that will take the power (up to 600 ft lbs) and be able to have a transfer box on it

its called the FR605 and its based on the tremec TKO 600. its altered from the tko by Rakeway who deal with comp safari racing parts for landys and toyotas. it mates to the lt230 which will take the torque no problem as its tough as old steel boots.

ive dealt with the guy from rakeway before (cant remember his name!) and he's happy to chat to you for hours about your options (well at least this was the case a year ago)

heres the link:

What a find! - those people have some really good products to solve lots of engine / transmission problems in landys.
Solid propshafts which I could do with and a new output flange for the L230 to make it shorter.

Bit of a late entry but!!

Post by andyducati »

Sorry its a bit of a late addition to this post but I'm having a FR605 built at the moment.
Neil at Rakeway is a lovely chap who has helped me through the choices available with the tremec boxes.
Basically I am having a TKO600 with the high 5th gear.

My Discovery has a 383 Chevy with Edelbrock heads and a Performer Cam. And megasquirted. The original LT77 is just holding out so should be fine till the FR605 arrives.

Will let you all know how it goes when the time comes.

Andy
