Engine Identification???

Post by Jono FD3 »

Guys, I've got this engine in a hilux I've just bought..... I was told it was a 3.9 or 4.0 rangie V8, but looking at the engine number chart it should be an SD1 3.5 Auto engine. but the thing is it's a manual with EFI :?

Please help me identify the engine!!!
Hers a pic of the engine number:

Cheers for your help

It was originally an sd1 auto. Its an old engine so will have been changed to the current spec. All the parts are interchangeable on the SD1 engines so its no worse or better really than any other SD1 engine. Course the fact that it should be a 3.9 is a different matter. It is possible that its like a few other engines on this site that it has been re-linered to 3.9. Only way to find that out is to take a head off and measure the bore. Or take it back to where you got it and get your money back and get a 3.9 that you probably paid a premium for.

Only payed £300 for the whole truck, the conversion plate is worth more than that, so I'm not too botherd!! But the EFI bit is what's getting me???

It may very well come to an engine rebuild, as one of the core plugs is shot, & I'm not shure how well the thing runs yet, as I havent put a battery on it to get it going!!!

efi conversion is a very common thing to do on rover engines.
