sherpa gearbox

Post by rscob »

Hi chaps,i'm after a bit of advice on gearbox fittings,i have a lt77 sherpa box that i want to fit onto my rover v8 not sure what box this is ,it has a round type bellhousing and clutch release arm pivot pin is on the opposite side to the sd1 box and also the input shaft is a lot thicker,i can swap the bellhousings over then is it just a case of different diameter spigot bush in the end of the crank and away i go :?

thanks rob

There's a high chance it's for the O-series engine.

Not sure about the input shaft options though.

Chris.

I think that the input shafts may be different on the Sherpa to that on the 2wd versions of the LT77.

I've got a brand new LT77 input shaft, but with no idea what it fits, so I've directly compared it to everything that I can think of with an LT77 apart from a Sherpa, and it matches none of them, so I'm left thinking it's for a Sherpa, and unique to them.

Thanks for the replys,is it possible to swap the sdi front input shaft retaining cover over to the sherpa box so the pivot pin is on the right side for the sd1 bellhousing clutch setup, and is it a diy job to swap over the input shafts if need be ie sdi onto the sherpa[if it is a sherpa box :? ].

Be careful with that. I don't have a box in front of me, but that may affect the shimming of the bearing. Is there not enough meat to drill and tap the other side in the right place to accept the pivot instead and swap the bellhousing only?
Cheers,
John

although they look similar and have similar ratios the insides are completetly differant , all the gears and bearings are differant to the LT77 box , there is a sherap box that will do the job the one fitted to the 200/pilot and ldv400 V8 as they have the smaller input tip they call it the R5-150
remember it's only a bodge if it DOSN'T worK
