I wanted some more ring gear specs if possible.
I am mating a pre engaged discovery tdi starter with a
70's land rover 2.25 petrol ring gear[this was intended for an inertia starter].
People are using this combination. Seems without any problem. the gear profiles seem to be the same pitch even though they look completely different. The starter pinion must have a shifted profile[9 tooth] so I spose the accounts for it's sharp looking little teeth.
The ring gear is obviously relieved the wrong side, but seems to work OK.
I wondered about similarites between ring gears, I could probably spot similarities and possible flywheels/starters if I knew the specs on, land rover 2.25 D, 2.5 D and 200tdi ring gears.
It's not just a case of try it and see as it's going on an engine conversion and the casting is only in solidworks at the mo.......well I have chopped up loads of bit's of plywood, I just look at the bits of wood and wonder how the feck they are ever going to resemble the adapter!!

and for anyone that says it's not a V8 I spent lot's of years playing with V8's so forgive me for turning into a diesel pussy, I still can't believe I drive a diesel...
