Cleaning black sludge from block

Another vote for Fairy Power spray here! Used it on my heads etc when rebuilding my 3.5...

Degrease with Paraffin, dry

Power Spray, work in with a stiff brush

Hose and pressure wash off

Stick in dish washer!

Try Nitromors paint stripper its amazing! I cleaned a set of very dirty rocker gear in it. It removed all trace of black deposit as well as the brown varnish stain on some of the rockers. I washed the parts in diesel afterwords, however hot water might do the trick.

I think I need to divide the block into eight different areas and use a different cleaning technique on each one!

At least no-one suggested Cillit Bang!

tried it on an A series block, it was rubbish! too much effort, straight steel wool worked better!

Sparked it up and BANG THE BLOCK WAS GONE

and when mums not home i pop over to my parents house and use the dishwasher

Came home the other day to find my wife wrestling with the dish washer, saying something about needing a new one as it "seems to be on it's way out". I suddenly had a sinking feeling and had to do some quick thinking. The day before, while she was out, I used it to clean 4 rocker covers that I'd just had bead blasted

On closer inspection itlooks like the front of the oil galleries are plugged-off with three strike marks peening each plug in position. Removing these (and finding replacements) might be as much effort as getting the block out of the car!

I've just tried it on the inside of the timing cover

. It looks like new!
