Pro Street MGB??

I have several reasons for changing the look of the front for 2010.
The main one is the messing around having to cover the bonnet everytime it rains at the track. The second one is that I love these scoops

She sits too low at the front on a stock bonnet.

So I'm modding a spare RV8 bonnet to make it look better.

Can I ask what you are going to use to bridge the gap please?
I may have a very easy solution which will take very little time and effort to make a great job out of that and for small cost.

I was going to use resin and matting to start and then ue P40 to build it up.

I'm back from work now. I've already put one layer of matting strips across the gaps so I get a sort of natural line between the two edges. And I've bonded on 2 ally strips with P40 to the bonnet and scoop.
I was going to lay on 3 more layers of matting and also put some matting around the edges to join the bonnet and scoop all together.
Then I was going to add ally mesh across the gap on the underside as well. And bond this on with P40 also.

I'm assuming I could fill the gaps on the outside with P40 and then sand back to start filling.

Got any tips Gelmonkey ??
My fear is the joints cracking!!

Hi Perry
I fear you have had a bout of premature lamination

I would have advised bonding the scoop on with a chemical called Crestomer which will bond incredibly well to all materials and then you could have laminated over the top and then filled and faired that.
Using ali strips and laminate will leave you with different expansion and contraction rates which will lead to cracking.
If it was me I would remove what you have done and start over but if time is against you you can carry on and create a 10mm radiused bead around the scoop and the hole in the bonnet and then after heavy keying on the underside of the bonnet, laminate strips each slightly larger than the last and feather them out onto the bonnet and up into the scoop itself.
Ideally you would use a laminating roller to remove any air bubbles in the laminate which leads to a stronger job all round.
This will tie the two sections together and hopefully minimize the cracking problem.

I've got a second scoop on the way for a second attempt. I still want it a bit higher I reckon. I'll do as you say and remove the ally.

Ideally I would like to modify the scoop thats on its way so it will drop straight onto a standard MGB bonnet. Maybe thats something you could help with?
Would it be possible to take a new scoop and extend the vertical section so the flange to the bonnet is further down and at a different angle?
Stupid question, as I suppose your answer will be, "I can do anything with this stuff Pel"

When the new scoop arrives I could do some drawings and send it to you to do if its not mega expensive!

If you wanted to,you could come down with the bonnet and the scoop (am a fair distance from you though)and we could set it all up exactly as you wanted and then I could modify accordingly.

It is not too difficult at all to remodel something like this and would not be silly money either.
When is the new scoop due?

Well, the seller states around 7 business days. But it was nearly 6 weeks??

Maybe you could take a mould from this one and do some yourself??
I'm in no rush as I already have the prototype on the go for this years first outing
