Any one Know the dimensions of a ZF4HP22 auto box 2WD in comparison to a LT77 for a possible fitment into a late MGB with the bigger tunnel.
Also there were I believe 2 sizes of bellhousing used on the range rover probably with different size torque converters so would need to know if the bolt patterns on all the ZF variants will fit the any of the rover bellhousings. I think only the smaller bellhousing would work in the MGB.

It's a bit hard to give dimensions as it's such a complex shape.
However I think I do have some at work, which I won't be able to access until Monday though.
I am only aware of a single bellhousing RV8->ZF4HP2x. There were various torque converters and flex plate arrangements, but they all fitted into the same bellhousing.
I can measure the length of the one I have in my van (but the tailcone is much bigger on the LDV version), but measuring up the rest of it is quite hard.

Chris,
Don't worry about the dimensions if it's a problem trying to measure, I can probably find them on the web or someone may have a box out of a car.
The bellhousings I was talking about are on this site. although they are obviously 4wd boxes.

The box that claims to be from RRC / Disco 1 has a non-v8 bellhousing on it. It must be a TDI bellhousing, but the starter motor bulge doesn't appear to be in the right place.
Anyways, it's the other one, P38 / Disco II. In fact, if you look carefully, the plate between the bellhousing and gearbox body is thicker on the one with the V8 bellhousing. This I believe actually makes it a 4HP24 as fitted to the 4.6V8's as it's a slightly stronger box.
I will try to remember to measure my van 'box length next time I'm outside.

When i changed the box on the pop from GM180 to ZF4 HP22, i moved the engine forward about an inch, i managed to use the same prop although the sliding joint is slightly more out, fixed length, as it's a jag rear end, i found it only just fitted in the original space as the bellhousing was considerably more bulkier towards the rear, i got some shots of it all here on webshots, sorry about the pop ups ... forward from here
