may sound like a silly question but how many gears has it got / ie: how many can you select ?
I have not got a gearstick so I really have no idea to be honest.
I have never seen a 4 speed LT77 though - they must be rare ?
you should be able to shove the selector back and forth with a screwdriver to see how many gears you have .. the rover 2000 p6 had a 4 speed version , the trouble is all the cases look almost identical , the only differances are the drain and level holes are in differant places but even then there is no logic to it ..
remember it's only a bodge if it DOSN'T worK
it looks after having a rumage around , ignore the 41a part of the number and CL****** is a TR7 box
thats what i have on my V8 , the ratios are very similar to early SD1 boxes , but there are some bearing size differances .. if it's been sitting around for while it's worth opening it up and changeing seals / oil pump and gaskets they are not expensive and it's an easy box to recon i get all my bits from :
Royce Power Transmission Ltd

Gear box identification suffix B'
Did you find out what the suffix B' means? Just got a 3.5 19A VDP unit but ends B'. Which has confused me. Any ideas?
