Some serious insurance issues! Help

Right, been looking into replacing my Pug 306 diesel with something not so normal and boring before I get too old. Found a nice Golf Mk2 Van with a bunch of (sensible) modifications (coilovers, uprated brakes, exhuast, allloys and then mainly cosmetic stuff like debadged, single wiper etc) but I just can't get a sensible quote for it!

I've tried all the comparison sites, who will insure me on it standard for less than £400 (it's only a 1.3) but mention the mods and the prices nearly double.

I spoke to footman james, well known for modded cars, and they wanted £1700 FFS!!! I know I live in one of the worst postcodes in the UK, but that's just taking the pee a bit too much.

They also said that I am still classed as a young driver, but I'm 29, I always though the cut off was 25, when did that change?

Oh, and to the point of the thread, anyone recommend a decent insurer not scared of a few mods, because if I can't get covered on this, I will NEVER get covered for the MG!!!

Classicline cover me on the Healey for £284 fully comp, agreed value and unlimited mileage! They didn't blink an eyelid when I uprated from a 350 to a 383.

I can soon turn around some v8 owners club cards so every one can get a discount if need be from them, i can knock up cards for proof, will just need some sort of donation from anyone needing the cards to cover the laminated pouches etc,

www.keithmichaels.co.uk 0208 329 1150 got me my insurance for £293 with a company called Highway. It's actually less than I pay for my everyday car which is a Peugeot diesel estate. It has a limit of 8000 miles on it.

i have just contacted GS to see if they would think about being the forums official insurance company,

If any one has to contact there insurance in next few weeks etc, ask them if they are interested in being the forums official insurance company. then give them my email address to talk to me if they are interested.
as between us all we may be able to get every one covered by our own official insurance company

just a thought.

I'm sure the stats show that a Golf modified like that is likely to be used by drug dealers, gangsters etc. so it's a bad risk!

Tsk, assumptions dear Chris!

Don't matter anyway now, I was involved in a bad accident this morning and my pug took a proper clobbering. The women that hit me went a bit mental and tried to blame me saying I was going too fast.

She pulled out from a side road across a dual lane one-way road at some crossroads (to go straight on, i.e. crossing the road I was on), went through a line of static cars and sideswiped me on my rear nearside 1/4 as I went past.

How the heck is that my fault?? She didn't even try to avoid me, I braked and had to swerve, nearly hitting another car and narrowly missing a lamppost. I reckon she thought it was a normal road and not one way, she even said she didn't even see me, so why the hell pull out at speed?!?

I feel fubared now, would have gone home but still proper shook up over this. Never felt like this it's not nice, and my arm/neck is killing me

That's a nuisance. Sounds like you've got shock.

The insurance process wil sort out the blame. When somebody crashed into my Landie, their first comments were exactly the same. They even filled in their paperwork to the effect that it was my fault.

However I stuck to my guns, and they backed down. Ended up with a nice wedge of cash for my final year at Uni!

Get yourself checked out at casualty/ hospital walk in centre, shock can cover up alot of damage.

thanks guys, I'm off to the doctors in a bit. The guys at work have been really nice - my manager and another guy commented I looked 'like sh!t' when I came in. I've not been able to concentrate all morning until about now, but I've not felt safe enough to drive again until now. This is a proper strange feeling

I've had concussion three or four times over the years, it can leave you feeling very "odd" "semi-detached from things" almost as if everything is happening to someone else and you are watching, at least it did with me. . . get yourself to the doctors! :
