Engine no.?

Post by jockamok »

Hi, i've checked the section on the site with all the engine numbers and would appreciate a quick confirmation before i buy a head set please. My block is a 3.5 (told was 3.9! more lies...) but has only 30A00617 stamped on it, no other prefix or suffix letters at all. Is this a Morgan engine or an SD1. failing that is there any difference between them for the head set? It's on carbs, not EFI so is there any other problems i may encounter when buying a head set? any help is appreciated

cheers
Scott

The top eng gasket sets for the various 3.5 engines are interchangable in that they will fit, there are some composit gaskets for 3.5 engines and some tin ones, swapping these around will effect C/R and tappet preload so some thought will need to be applied if you don't replace tin with tin or composite with composite.

thanks Mike. I'll take the heads off first then see what type of gasket is needed. I have oil in the water (no water in oil though) so hopefully its the gasket and not engine damage

Scott,

A 30A engine shoud be a 3.5 Vitesse so a bit of a bonus as comp ratio should be 9.75/1 and the heads should flow a bit better, I think these engines were rated at 184 BHP.

Did you get the EFI system with it and if so, is it single or double throttle body which is known incorrectly as twin plenum.

Theres no reason why it cant be a 3.9 even with those engine numbers, JE did loads of re lined blocks out to 93.5, the only way to be sure is to measure the bores
