Perry - r.e. those Chebby axels. They do look very good, but it will be close to a garnd if not more after import duty and tax etc. And that's not including the cost of springs/shocks etc, or 4-link kit and coilovers plus fitting. You could get a Jag IRS modified for less than that. Do you know what power rating these Chev axels are rated at, it just says 'high' on the website . . .
Also, I have 5-stud hubs so that would surely be more cost as it's a non-standard MG fitment. Also have discs/calipers at the rear rather than drum brakes (which I really don't like!) . . .

I weigh nearly 18 stone!!
When I did my first guesstimate at all up weight, I included me and a full tank of petrol. And my packed lunch
Are you saying you dont like the rear disks?
I nearly converted to disks on the rear. But I got a lot of feedback to say that the 10" drums in good nick and adjusted properly were better.
Just a pain having to tweak them a few times a year.
My car is complete with full interior, except I've thrown out the rear seat and stuck the nitrous stuff in the back.

LOL Perry, that's a big sarnie box!!
Ah well I'm only 12stone! No I meant i preferred discs, sorry i typed that a bit crap.
Yeah one of the good bits of the MGB is the rear drums - best of their era and yes, if set up right can be very good, but as you said need tweaking regularly. I have some spanky 5-spoke Compomotives to go on when the engine is in so having discs is a bit more of a cosmetic thing for me as well.
I have merc discs (I think) and cossy rear calipers on my SD1 axel at the moment, and not gonna change unless i change axels lol. At the moment I'm seriously considering an IRS over 5-linked solid axel. I fancy a Jag or Cossy diff in a custom cage - gives m an excuse to learn to weld

He He!!
My sarnie box is big mate. I should name my car the "Salad Dodger"
You really should email me some pics of the MGB mate.
I'd liike to see what you are up to and the guys on the MGOC forum would be interested to see what you are doing.
I'm going to stick with the standard BV8 axle until it goes pop in a big non repairable way.
Then I'll look at upgrading. These old axles used to be the fave of many home builders for dragging back in the day. I reckon mine will see me well into the 11's before she decides to embarrass me in front of the folk in the stand.

hi Perry,
the rear axle is from a 244 volvo with moroso shafts, dont know the ratio yet but will work it out next time i can get help to hold the wheels and turn it round to work ratio out.
new gearbox mounting has been made, need to fully weld brackets up when i pull the motor back out to give me some room

Well done mate.
Hope you kept a template of the adaptor. For the future.
It might be worth knocking some up like we said before!

Good idea Andy.
I've still got a steel adaptor plate that I might get a mate to copy on his laser cutter thing. He stocks 2mm stainless so that might make a sturdy template eh?

Hi Perry
that would be easy to do then, you could knock a few of the templates out ,if people want them.
its been an easy conversion to do.the hardest job was cutting the 12mm alloy plate to size, hard work with a jig saw.
made it ten times easy when i got a buick flex plate.
