Exhaust Pipe

Post by Wee_chris »

I have now fitted the engine and gearbox to my chassis and about to fit my block hugger manifolds.

I am looking for exhaust pipe suppliers, everywhere I have found so far only sell 1m lengths.

Does anybody know where I can get pipe, I'll probably need it mail order.

Also what diameter and gauge pipe is best to match my Rover V8.

Soon I'm going to have to build a rollcage to help strengthen chassis and also make things a bit safer from me, so any ideas on diameter and gauge for that.

Cheers

Chris

if you want stainless try www.milneroffroad.com but they will only sell it up to 2m lengths and also do all the bends and stuff too. If you just want mild steel then look up a local silencer distributors or some place like that, they will also do bends if you need them but they wont be mandrill bent. Size depends on the system. Single exhaust 2.5" twin 2" unless your putting out a good bit power.

Role cage will have to be seamless cold drawn steel at a minimum but chrome molly would be best. To be honest i would recommend you buy one unless nobody does them. You wont could use a home made one for any kind of racing and if its for road use then see here http://www.v-8.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=510 for whether its a good idea or not.

I bought all the components for my system directly from Jetex:

POR-15 doesn't work (well it does, if you can get it to stick)

Cheers Guys,

I have had a lok at Jetex, they do some of the bits I need.

Will have a hunt through www.milneroffroad.com

As for the cage, sounds like I better buy one. I know of somebody that does hops for the behind the seats. But I'll source a full cage now, not sure if any body makes them fitted to chassis. So looks like I better strengthen the chassis.

Thanks

Chris

Chris,

Advanced Autosport Technologies make a cage for the Spit Mk4.

http://www.advancedautosport.com/cages.htm

On my old nail the chassis has been reinforced by plating it and the rear roll cage mainly there for safety and rear-end rigidity.

Cheers,

Ian
