Hi all, does anyone know of another make other than quaife , i know quaife are good but i dont like the £600 price tag, just thought i might need to stop the wheels spinning ,but that could be wishfull thinking.

I don't think the road version of the SD1 Vitesse ever had an LSD.
The racing Grp1/A SD1s certainly did, but these were special builds of course.
Salisbury lsd were available for them back then in the 70s-80s, and had been used on the works TR8s.
The Quaiffe is a top unit but as you say not cheap.
Interestingly the special edition Leyland Australia built 4.4 P76 V8 4 door Targa Florio of 1974-5 had a BW lsd fitted.

is a case of scouring the ads, TR7 ads are possibly a source, obviously MotorSport sources, I was told that quite a few V8 Sherpas built for the Police and Ambulance services were often fitted with LSDs, but not very tight ones, and I dont know if they can be tightened, I was told its not to hard to convert Jaguar 4HA internals to fit, but how true this is I dont know.

There is a cheaper alternative. Phantom Grip LSD from some place down in oxfordshire or cambridgeshire, MG spares or something. It's not a direct LSD, but acts like one. Apparently the yanks have been running them for years. Mine came with the MG when I bought it and works well (from what i remember, it was like 4yrs ago now).
As far as I know they are pretty good value compare to the Quaife ones.

as far as phantom grips go, the consensus on www.hybridz.com is that they aren't worth a bucket of pig poop.
I have a Quaife LSD and have been very satisfied. Easy to fit, no problems whatsoever. Very nice finish as one would expect. Not cheap though. I bought mine directly from Quaife simply because other sources were more expensive.
Finding a used LSD might sound tempting but some may need new friction plates etc and soon the costs escalate.

WTF is with that website?! Nowt like internet bandwaggoning. Works a treat in my MG, and besides, it was already fitted to the car when I got it, and it's better than a standard diffkiwi303 wrote:as far as phantom grips go, the consensus on www.hybridz.com is that they aren't worth a bucket of pig poop.
