Rocker covers are attached, certainly in the case of my engine, with 4 screws, 1/4 UNC.

I cant remember as I always change them for allen cap screws but it definitely wont be metric. If 8mm is loose then it will be 1/4.

I think that's the thread 1/4 UNC not the spanner size your need.

5/16 would be right as that the closest to 8mm.

as other have said I always fit stainless cap heads.

No, it's exactly the same size as 7.93mm

The socket size that you need is 5/16" AF bihex. You'll find it's a tighter fit than an 8mm one.

on the rover V8 i have found if in dought try AF , as it was a yanky engine to start with and they are still quite few on it
remember it's only a bodge if it DOSN'T worK
