2WD R380 problem

Post by mgbloke »

I have an R380 gearbox with a 4.6L Rover V8 in the MGB and after 8 years of extreme abuse at track days im having problems.
I bought the box new and am impressed how it has performed.
Everything works fine except 4th gear.

Where is the best place to get it repaired? I remember reading somewhere that parts are hard to get.

Thanks in advance

I can't answer your question directly, but I'd be very surprised to hear that parts are hard to get. There's millions of Discoveries with the R380 for a start + Defenders, + Sherpa vans....

I suggest you contact these two companies.

Ashcroft Transmissions, Dunstable - a 4x4 specialist but they might help out.

Competition Transmissions, Markyate

I've no connection other than getting good advice and/or service from them.

Thanks Guys.
I have taken the box to Gearlink Ltd in Salisbury which is only an hour away.
Apparently the 4th sincro has disintegrated but the gears themselves are OK
Full recondition for £500 +vat. Delivered it to them Wednesday and will be ready for collection Friday afternoon.
Should have it all back together for Castle Combe Eurofest on 6th Sept.
