Computer troubles again

Post by ppyvabw »

I believe something to do with my graphics card has gone for a terd. Normally there is no screen output on switch on. Wiggling the card makes the computer go beep, and then it boots up.

Removing the card and plugging the monitor into the motherboards on board monitor socket fixes the problem totally, except now the graphics are shite.

I suspect it's the crappy cheap mother board because of the fact i can wiggle it in the socket makes it work. I have blwon in it and cleaned it etc...also checked for bad soldering joints on the motherboard. Any last ditch suggestion what I could do before I buy a new motherboard. I might buy the sound card first but I don't think it's that. The line out socket on the motherboard has gone for a poop too, so I think it's just generally a cheap piece of tat.

It's all cheap tat - I mean, how can anybody possibly make a motherboard for £20!!!

Anyway, clean the contacts on the graphics card, and also poke a wire behind all the contacts in the socket to bend them out towards where the card slots in (to increase the pressure on the contacts).

Chris.

s'ok a new card seems to have done the trick.

For now anyway. These things generally pack up again once you have fixed them.

I'm going to have to do some blue tack engineering later because the wire on the fan will not reach around the new board so I have unscrewed it, taken the cover off and I'm going to blue tack it on to a box so it's cooling down the heatsink on the card. My case is very small and the board was getting stinking hot. its just balanced there at the moment
