Both cams b0rked :(

Post by volospian »

The Cerb was making some nice rattly noises which were not calming down once warm so I assumed the tappets needed adjusting (for those that didn't know, the AJPV8 tappets need adjusting with shims every major service, so 12k miles or so)

Anyway, as you have by now guessed from the thread title, it turns out that both cams are knackered. Jaysus these things are expensive. About £2k or so for new cams and buckets and to get them all shimmed up properly. I'm also getting the mainfolds welded where they've cracked and the brakes done and it'll be around £3k by the time they've finished.

I was going to do the brakes myself but last time I jacked the car on the drive, I damaged the new tarmac drive and the missus went spare, so I thought f**k it, while it was in there they may as well do them as well. Saves me getting another earful from my beautiful wife :)

With cams that price, I would be looking elsewhere,
Ive Just had a cam made to my spec and custom followers made as well all less than £350, but this was with a substantial discount.
Newman Cams have been making cams since I was a kid, and Ive not really heard anything bad about them,

Even if they re-profiled your existing cams ???

Is there any way of simplifying the shimming process ?
