ZF auto changer

Post by texpis »

Hi all
Is there an aftermarket changer for the ZF autobox from a range rover classic?

Do you mean the shifter assembly (i.e. the 'stick') or some part of the gearbox itself?

The shifter assembly that is in the cab. Something surface mounted I have no room to sink the range rover one into the tunnel and it looks pants.

An LDV one still looks pants, but isn't sunk in:

I think it's an Eaton part, which looks like you can set it up for any shift pattern.

Or check the scrapyard for BMW 3/5 series, Jag, Volvo shifters. But I think they're all sunk in to a hole in the tunnel.

Cheers for the reply chris that looks a bit big for my application you would have thought some aftermarket supplier would do a universal one!

Problem is with the zf changer is the way it connects the cable. I have a spare zf changer you can butcher to mess on with if you need one. The other way you could do it is chop the cable and get a clevis pin solded on or what ever you need then you can use anything that suits.
I do erratically, often with bits falling off.

Thanks for the offer Lee I may take you up on that. I am just investigating at the moment the shifter is surface mounted looks the pits but it will do for now. Its a Bowler Tomcat so no Beauty queen anyway?

B&M shifters do 1, its a rachet style, just like having a sequential.

I though that too - but couldn't see if it would work with a zf box. I looked on the B&M site and they only list GM stuff.

The thing with the ZF box is that the distance between P & R is about twice the distance between all the rest, so if the shifter had equally spaced detents it wouldn't work.....

My GM shifter is like that, so it might work.
