RV8 Angle

Post by Ralphh85 »

would a V8 mind being layed down a bit? current K series sits at 15 degree's or something, would a V8 be ok with this?

i may have to revise the oil level, but can anyone see any other problems?

Angling the block back about 5 degrees so that the front is higher is supposed to help prevent oil being stored up in the heads.

15 degrees may cause issues with getting the carb to function correctly.

ahh have wrong end of the stick, its transversely mounted in the rear of the car, so it would lean forward, so the front bank would be lower than the lower than the rear bank??

do you think this would be ok?

edit, also i intend to use injection rather than carbs anyway.

I think you'd get issues with oil pooling in the lower bank rocker area, and probably permanently leaking out of the gasket!

But I can't think if anything else that might be an issue.

Why do you need to do this?

Chris.

The main problem may be with cooling, with one head higher than the other, and it being higer than the thermostat housing, bleeding air from that head would be a real PIA, this could possibly be overcome by drilling and tapping the head at the waters highest point into the jacket, then run a pipe to a expansion tank
If its a carbed engine, float levels would possible be another issue,
And minor oiling probs could include the dipstick tube need lengthening to stop oil being ejected out of the tube, The windage tray may need modifying or discarding to prevent the oil pooling in the wrong place as well, a Custom dry sump would be the Ideal way to go, not too expensive to get it cast either if you can make the patern
The oil retention in the head could be simply overcome by drilling the head in a couple of places at its lowest point, and fitting some drain tubes to the sump, the upper head possibly may not be a problem with drainage,

Might Oil starvation be a problem under hard breaking? Baffles in the appropriate places might be a good idea to stop the oil sloshing forward
