Engine Balancing

Post by CastleMGBV8 »

I will have to have all the new engine parts for my 4.35 internally rebalanced.

The nearest, and probably the most competent people to me in south east London, are Real Steel although that still a fair treck, but I can pick up all the other bits whilst I'm there, so save a bit on carriage.

Anyone used them for balancing, or know of a company nearer to me who have a good reputation.

Kevin.

Probably nearer is Specialised engines, Basically a Place that econs Ford engines, But worth a call,
http://www.specialisedengines.co.uk/e1971gt/dir8.html

or this place, Baldynes have been about for years, used to be located opposite Bromley bus garage,I thought they had sold up completly when the old man died, but I found the again a little while ago, when I used them they were seriously into performance engines, even used to race Lotuses in the 60s
http://www.baldyne.com/default.htm
They are now located on Biggen Hill Airfeild, worth finding out if they do their own ballancing or its sent out elsewhere, as they do aircraft engines as well, their work should be top of the range!!

Ian,

Thanks for the tips, I'd heard of specialised Engines and there's also Burton Engineering over that way.

Re Baldyne Eng. They did a bit of work on my last engine, their attitude is a bit casual and the word around locally is that their not what they used to be, so had discounted them for this engine which is a bit more complicated than my 3.5.

I've just ordered the pistons from Summit in the states, great people to deal with, only problem is that I can only get a flat top with a 5cc. valve cut out rather than a pure flat top and it's going to reduce the compression by about .5/1 so may need to reduce deck height by 20thou. which will make more complications with manifold fitment.

Regards,

Kevin.

For machine work I use Thurstons, allways been top quality work, at a sensible price
http://www.thurstonengineering.co.uk/
the rollers are also "honest" you tend to get whats right, not what you wanted to hear like you do on some rollers.
knowing a couple of people who work there, it may be a good place to ask where to get ballancing done
:D
