Spring insatlled height?

Post by winkle »

When measuring valve spring installed height, is it measured from the platform to the underside, or top of the retainer?

I was sure it was underside but then I got told by a mate it was to the top of the retainer :? Just want to double check cos I need to do this tommorow!!

Installed height, is the actual installed height of the spring itself.

As Stevie say Winkle. Its the height of the spring itself. So to the underside of the spring cap.
I've had my heads machined deeper around the valve guides to take the heavy double valve springs. I use check springs to get the measurements, then use shims to bring the fitted height up to what it should be. Give or take a thou or two.
You can get the check springs and shims from Real Steel.
